March of Dimes Walk-April 2009

I walk in honor of my baby Evan and in memory of baby Tessa. Read about her here. I raised almost $800.00 this year for the March of Dimes.

Dominique is my cousin. She is 15 years old and she has lived the majority of her life in Europe. She moved to the states only 2 years ago. About a month or so ago...she woke up with a swollen, painful jaw. Her parents took her to the doctor to find out what the problem was. She was then told it might be a tumor. Of course, when you think, "tumor"...you think the worst....you think a malignant cancerous tumor. The doctor did a scan and a biopsy and found that it was a benign cyst....but it was a very aggressive benign cyst. To be exact..they call it a keratin cyst. It is so big and aggressive that the doctors will be surgically removing it.

Please pray for Dominique!

Pray that her parents and sister have peace and patience as they wait.

Platelet Donation (Jan 2009)

In memory of Baby Tessa and in honor of our friend Trevor...I donated platelets for the first time. It was a very interesting experience. I plan to donate often. You can donate as often as every 2 weeks. Platelets are needed every day by so many people. Please find the time to donate. Find a donation site in your area by clicking here.

Ryan built a time capsule. This was only 2 days after being in the hospital for brain surgery. God is awesome!

Happy New Year-2009

What a way to start out the new year. Our oldest had to have surgery to redo his third ventriculostomy. He was born in 2003 with hydrocephalus and was shunted at 3 days old. That shunt failed at a year old and it was taken out. Another procedure was done which is called a third ventriculostomy. It had to be redone 1 month later. Now...4 years later it had to be redone.

Our first week of the year was spent at the hospital but he bounced right back...he got out of the hospital on Thursday and was back to school on Friday. What a trooper.

While in the hospital...Ryan said that he wanted to see a rainbow because the only one he had seen was in a picture.......lo and behold...we saw the brightest-most beautiful rainbow on our way home from the hospital. I could not find a place to pull over quick enough to capture its beauty. It was a complete rainbow...ya know..sometimes you just see a partial rainbow...this rainbow went across the entire sky. I saw from one end to the other. It was awesome. It was a beautiful reminder of God's presence.

Trevor

Please continue to pray for our neighbor, Trevor. He is only 7 years old and he was just diagnosed with aplastic anemia 2 months ago. He is taking alot of medicines. He is getting alot of plasma and blood transfusions. He is not able to go to school because he has to stay away from large crowds. He has gained 22 pounds since he started the steroids. PLease pray that it is in God's Will that Trevor begin to produce the white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets on his own.

Here is a picture of Ryan and Trevor today. He tires very easily. All the kids got to play in the court today because it was a beautiful day. It is hard to believe it is December and almost Christmas. Where is the snow?

A friend of theirs is having a fundraiser for him to help with medical expenses and to show him support. This is from their caring bridge site.

Christmas Party at School-No school til January.

Look at the tree Ryan's Kindergarten class made. The presents underneath were for the book swap they did. Other presents under the tree were an awesome angel that the kids made for their parents.

Here is the snack I made for the party. It came out of Dec issue of Family Fun magazine.

They all made a felt stocking. Even little brother Jack did.

Jack's 1st Visit to the Dentist

Jack went to the dentist today. His favorite thing was when the hygienist was using the suction thing that looks like a straw. He got the biggest kick out of that. He would close his mouth on it and it would make a funny noise. He also liked picking out 2 prizes and getting a new toothbrush.

The dentist told us we need to work on getting rid of the paci by the time he is 4. We got rid of Ryan's paci when he was 3. We took it to the hospital to give it to the babies. It was very easy. He didn't give us a fight.

Jack is giving us a fight. We are not being very forceful about taking it because we don't want Jack to give up naps. I should rephrase that. I don't want Jack to stop taking naps. What difference does it make to Chad? He isn't here during the day.

When Ryan got rid of his paci-he got rid of naps. Naps are very important around here. It is very nice that 2 out of the 3 boys take long naps. I don't want to mess up a good thing...but then again....if we don't fight this fight....we are looking at high orthodontic bills in our future.
